98: ADHD, Neurodivergence, and Reclaiming Joy

Season #2

In Part 2 of the conversation, Megan and Kathleen continue their discussion, shifting into a powerful exploration of Kathleen’s ADHD diagnosis and the clarity it brought to her life. For years, Kathleen struggled with burnout, emotional exhaustion, and a sense that she wasn’t measuring up—despite her best efforts. It wasn’t until her ADHD diagnosis that the pieces finally came together and her experiences began to make sense.

Kathleen opens up about her journey with ADHD, including the process of navigating self-diagnosis and experimenting with various medications. She shares how understanding the nuances of ADHD, including traits like rejection sensitivity dysphoria and the need for immediate gratification, helped her find self-compassion and new strategies for managing life more effectively. Coaching became a pivotal part of her healing, offering a personalized approach to growth that traditional methods often overlook.

The conversation also introduces a practical and insightful tool Kathleen uses with her clients—what she calls the “Dopa Menu.” This tool helps individuals incorporate intentional sources of dopamine into their daily lives to support motivation, emotional regulation, and overall well-being. Kathleen explains how creating a menu of feel-good activities can make a meaningful difference for those navigating neurodivergence and the stress of everyday life.

The episode concludes with a grounding somatic practice led by Kathleen, reinforcing the importance of connecting with the body during times of transition. She encourages listeners to create a safe internal space where personal growth can flourish, even in the midst of uncertainty. Kathleen’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of self-awareness, acceptance, and the willingness to explore a new way of being. Her story offers a compassionate reminder that we are not broken—we simply need tools and understanding to thrive. This episode leaves listeners inspired to look beyond systems that were never designed for them and to begin reclaiming the joy and identity that may have been lost along the way.
